Tricia Hoffman-Simanek, Attorney and Senior Vice President at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, P.L.C., presented Cybersecurity and Security of Mobile Devices to the Iowa Health Information Management Association (IaHIMA) on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. The presentation focused on how compliance and enforcement has become a focus by the federal government since 2014. Tricia provided examples of settlements and fines that the Office of Civil Rights has imposed on health care providers for violations of the privacy and security rules. The presentation outlined steps to maintain compliance with mobile devices, text messaging, and cloud computing. IaHIMA is a state organization affiliated with the national organization American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), a provider of professional education and training related to health information management.Tricia’s legal work focuses on civil litigation, professional malpractice and insurance law. She also provides advice and representation on HIPAA issues and compliance, professional licensure matters and risk management. She has represented and defended many entities and individuals in litigation matters, including medical malpractice, insurance claims, employment, and other types of related matters.
