Stephen B. Jackson, Sr. Receives the Rolland E. Grefe Pro Bono Publico Award

Stephen B. Jackson, Sr. is the 2017 recipient of the Rolland E. Grefe Pro Bono Publico Award from the Iowa State Bar Association.

The Iowa State Bar Association (ISBA) honored Attorney Stephen B. Jackson, Sr. with the Rolland E. Grefe Pro Bono Publico Award on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the ISBA Annual Awards Gala at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa.As described by the ISBA, “The Rolland E. Grefe Pro Bono Publico Award is awarded annually to an attorney who has enhanced the human dignity of others by improving or delivering pro bono legal services to those who, for one reason or another, are unable to afford a lawyer. Any member of ISBA is eligible for nomination.Steve Jackson was nominated for this award by Iowa Legal Aid, a nonprofit organization that serves low-income Iowans in need of legal assistance. Steve has volunteered with Iowa Legal Aid for more than 30 years to help people facing family-related legal issues who cannot afford an attorney. Throughout his time volunteering with Iowa Legal Aid, Steve has served hundreds of clients at no charge. He was the driving force behind the Family Law Intake Program, which connects volunteer lawyers with those in need of family-related legal services. Tom J. Levis, ISBA Vice President, presented the award to Steve. “Today, thanks to Steve and the Linn County Family Intake Project, there are literally hundreds of people every year who are taken care of,” said Levis. As he accepted this award, Steve thanked many people for helping him throughout his career. Steve was surrounded at the event by his family, as well as the attorneys from the family law group and several others from Shuttleworth & Ingersoll. Congratulations, Steve!
