In Mike’s practice, he represents numerous businesses and entities with operations in Iowa and Illinois, including privately held companies, publicly traded corporations, and government and nonprofit entities. Clients include manufacturers, distributors, retailers, growers, real estate developers, financial institutions, health care providers, dealerships, contractors and public institutions.

Mike provides transactional, contractual, regulatory and operational counsel to his clients. Since 2009, he has served as lead counsel for approximately 70 substantial business mergers, acquisitions, sales and ownership transfers and successions, ranging in value from $500,000 to $40 Million.

Mike received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas Christian University in 1998 and his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2001. He returned to his hometown of Waterloo in 2004 after practicing law for several years in Chicago. Mike is licensed to practice in Iowa and Illinois.

Mike has a wife and three sons and is an active church member and has volunteered with numerous civic and philanthropic community organizations.

Mike has volunteered with numerous civic and philanthropic community organizations and has been an active member of his church. He was a founder and President of the Waterloo Schools Foundation, as well as a founder and first President of the Waterloo Community Foundation. Mike is also a Trustee of the R.J. McElroy Trust and Director of the Young Family Foundation, which provide significant charitable support for deserving young people and recreational enhancement and natural resources conservation, respectively, in Northeast Iowa.

Mike was elected to the Waterloo Community School District Board of Education in 2007. Three years into his first term, Mike was chosen by his fellow board members as President and was unanimously re-elected each year thereafter until retiring from the school board in 2015. He also served on the City of Waterloo Planning, Programing & Zoning Commission between 2008 and 2015.
