About John H. Ehrhart

John has maintained a very successful practice in Cedar Rapids for over 40 years. He has broad experience in handling a wide variety of legal issues for individuals, lenders, and small businesses, especially in the real estate area.  John has also represented a number of large business operations in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Recently, John has been assisting the City of Cedar Rapids in the acquisition of properties affected by the 2008 flood.

Typical work for John includes:

  • Negotiating, preparing and reviewing contracts for business and real estate matters, including sales and purchases
  • Representing buyers, sellers and lenders in completion of negotiated real estate and business sales
  • Establishing the appropriate business entity for new businesses
  • Assisting clients with wealth transmission through the use of trusts and wills to achieve clients goals and minimize or eliminate death taxes
  • Preparing power of attorney documents and advance medical directives (living wills)
  • Probating wills and administering trusts
  • Working with executors and trustees to resolve family and beneficiary disagreements
