A primary focus of the Firm's recruiting efforts is our summer associate program. While a summer associate's declared area of interest is important, we believe it is also important that our summer associates work with as many of our attorneys as possible to better understand the Firm's many areas of specialization and to develop a variety of relationships within the Firm.
Practical experience is crucial for summer associates. In recognition of this belief we emphasize out-of-office learning experiences by trying to ensure that each summer associate has the opportunity to meet clients at their business locations, observe court and alternative dispute proceedings, and participate in events with other attorneys. Summer associates also gain experience and contribute to the community through working on pro bono projects.
Each of our summer associates is paired with an attorney mentor. The mentors serve as a resource throughout the course of the summer and assist the summer associates with their professional and social integration into the Firm. The mentors' role also includes making sure the summer associates are challenged with interesting work assignments and provided with appropriate feeback.
There are several social events throughout the summer which provide opportunities for summer associates to connect with the attorneys as well as one another outside the office. Some of our summer events include:
Informal Lunches
Weekly Softball Games
Cedar Rapids Kernals Baseball Game
Summer Party at Firm Partner's House
Uptown Friday Night events
Canoe Trip
American Cancer Society Relay for Life Firm Team.
